COVID19 Update GLC 5/4/2020

Proverbs 22:3
The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I hope that all of you are well and in good spirits. Clan McClenaghan continues to be physically distant, but socially active. I was lucky to participate in the Coffee Hour on Sunday morning and it was great to see all those smiling, Grace faces!

Governor Abbot has said that we can start opening our state, with restrictions. I have asked the Congregational Council to meet this week to discuss our plans for opening our church. As with all things regarding our church, we will use all our resources to make the best decision for our congregation and community.  Having said that, I want to make my thoughts on this subject clear.

First, the health and safety of our congregation and community are the primary concern. While we are allowed to open, it is critical that we consider the right way and proper timing. In my opinion, the right way is to follow the established guidelines on separation, capacity, what to wear and how to interact. The timing is dependent upon these factors, as well as meeting the needs of those that plan to remain physically distant. Online services were part of our future plans prior to Covid-19. Now that we are up and running, we are going to continue to deliver this service.

Second, we need to think through how we reopen the church. This will require communication, leadership and teamwork.

Lastly, we need to monitor the progress of our church and community. I think of this time as a test run and given the spread and impact of this virus, we need to be aware of changes in real time.

See the video communication that outlines our plan. If you have thoughts you want to share with us, please email me and I will make sure to pass it on to council. My email is below!

Stay safe, stay calm, stay connected!

Yours in Christ,

Scott McClenaghan
President, Grace Lutheran Church Congregational Council
